Kim Seokjin

Vocalist Born Dec 4, 1992

Biography

Kim Seokjin, known as Jin, is BTS's eldest member and one of the group's vocalists, cherished for a blend of elegance, humor, and emotional directness. He entered Big Hit Entertainment after being street-cast while studying acting, which gave him a different starting point from members who came through rap, dance, or music production. That unusual path became part of his charm: Jin built himself into an idol vocalist through patience, discipline, and a willingness to look awkward while learning.

In BTS, Jin often provides steadiness. His voice has a clear, silvery quality that suits ballads, dramatic pop, and sentimental climaxes. Songs such as "Awake," "Epiphany," and "Moon" turned his vocal identity into a fan favorite, each centered on sincerity rather than flash. He is also one of the group's great mood-makers. His dad jokes, flying kisses, "Worldwide Handsome" confidence, and variety-show instincts can make a room relax, but beneath the comedy is a member who has spoken thoughtfully about pressure, aging, confidence, and duty.

Jin's solo work highlights warmth. "Tonight" and "Abyss" revealed a gentle, reflective writer, while "Super Tuna" showed his gift for turning silliness into shared joy. "The Astronaut," co-written with Coldplay, became a heartfelt farewell before his military enlistment and a promise to return. After completing service, he expanded his solo voice through "Happy" and "Echo," moving between rock-pop energy, bright affection, and messages of comfort.

As the eldest, Jin has often carried responsibility quietly, from helping younger members feel at ease to facing enlistment first. His public persona is playful, but his artistry is grounded in emotional honesty. That contrast is why fans often describe him as both hilarious and deeply comforting: someone who can make a joke at exactly the right time, then sing a line that feels like it was meant to steady the listener.
